My Fake ID

About the legality, morality and other issues.

Iraqi Asylum Seeker used fake documents in UK Benefit Fraud

Mahira Rustam Al-Azawi, 49, used a series of false identities and Fake IDs over a period of several years to drain the Britain’s benefit system. In this period of time she managed to get a paid a university education for her and a private education for her son, she managed to buy three real-estate properties and get some other benefits. All in all it is believed that Al-Azawi acquired over £1 million of property using a series of false identities in UK and Ireland.

She even managed to get an Irish citizenship along with the British one. After she was caught the investigators found a series of documents, false contracts, fake documents such as fake passports, identity papers and driving licenses. It looks like she knew what she was doing and intended to continue doing so until she was caught. Luckily the police raided her house after she became suspicious after applying for another student loan. She was found guilty of 13 offences of benefit fraud, forgery and theft and sent to prison for 3 years.

This case is a good example how identity theft and a use of Fake IDs is a serious problem in UK, Ireland and other countries. There is a lack of control and criminals always seem to be a step ahead of prosecutors, but in the end almost everybody is caught and we are thankful for it.
